On Saturday
November 3rd, the Kent & East Sussex Railway Rail Trails includes 6 local walks from the Heritage Railway's stations through the Kent and E Sussex countryside, and is designed to give ramblers a chance to walk through parts of the High Weald AONB and along the Rother Valley and use the train as part of their journey. “Steam trains are not particularly environmentally friendly, using quantities of coal and water, but at K&ESR we try to encourage green tourism initiatives” said Graham Baldwin K&ESR General Manager. “We re-cycle as much as we can, and preserve items and materials that are re-usable. The railway runs through some superb countryside, and we are frequently used by groups of walkers as part of their day out. Rail Trails formalises some excellent footpath routes that link with the railway and enables visitors to park, walk and ride. We are grateful to Tenterden Improved for their support of this project, which is an excellent local tourism initiative. Tenterden is a great centre for walkers. Maidstone Ramblers and the Tenterden Footpath Group have also helped in the design of the walks.”
