"...Not very long ago, in the top left-hand corner of Wales, there was a railway. It wasn't a very long railway or a very important railway, but it was called The Merioneth and Llantisilly Rail Traction Company Limited, and it was all there was.

And in a shed, in a siding at the end of the railway, lives the Locomotive of the Merioneth and Llantisilly Rail Traction Company Limited, which was a long name for a little engine so his friends just called him Ivor..."

So began, in 1959, the first episode of the first series of a set of television films which were to become part of the mainstream of Children's television for the next thirty years.

And this year the famous little Welsh engine is coming to the Kent & East Sussex Railway for the very first time.  From Tuesday 5th to Thursday 7th August fond childhood memories can be re-lived over three fun-filled days of Ivor-themed activities for children of all ages.  Puppet and magic shows, face painters and colouring activities, plus the chance to meet the memorable characters that populated the Ivor stories.  Jones the Steam, Dai Station, Evans the Song, Mrs Porty and not forgetting Idris the dragon, will all be ‘in the top left-hand corner of Wales’, along with Ivor himself who will be blowing his very special whistle to make this an event to remember.
